The prospects for Iran and Eurasia in the twenty-first century are closely linked. Change in one will invariably create the incentive for change in the other. Set in the context of the changing nature of the socio-political tapestry of Eurasia, a vast territory encompassing so much of humanity"s history, this book is a discussion of contemporary Iran, its regional relations and its role in the current international system. The backdrop for the discussions in this volume, then, will be then Eurasian sphere; the foreground, Iran"s role in the current international system. In general, this book examines a country which is a strategically important and volatile element in world politics. It is hoped that this volume will contribute significantly to the understanding of the aspects of the international relations of a revolutionary regime which is evolving during a critical historical period, one which has witnessed the collapse of the Soviet bloc, the emergence of new global capitalism and the sudden decline of the tiger economies of South-East Asia.
