This, the third and final volume of a three DVD series about the life of Theodore Roosevelt, is both the best and the most moving. While the first two volumes from A2ZCDS showed Teddy Roosevelt on his way up – from Rough Rider to President – this volume documents his eventual decline, through the use of vintage historical film clips. What makes it particularly heart wrenching is that the clips start with Teddy while he is still president, being greeted by throngs of adoring fans, then being greeted by the crowned monarchs of Europe. After that, things start to decline. Teddy Roosevelt eventually spends much of his time at his Sagamore Hill home talking to well wishers about progressive ideas like women’s suffrage – long after his power base had faded. The last clips of the DVD are dedicated to Roosevelt’s funeral and grave site. Particularly moving is a clip of the Prince of Wales visiting Roosevelt’s grave. These clips are very well preserved and the digital preservation process is as good as it gets.
