It can’t have been easy to be the first president to be captured on film on a regular basis. All of the presidents who came before Teddy Roosevelt had the luxury of having their words spread through the print medium. Roosevelt, thanks to Edison’s invention of film stock, was captured on film on a regular basis. That these films have survived and been captured on this DVD (the second in a three part series from A2ZCDS) is in itself amazing given that the vast majority of celluloid film was destroyed or burned in storage. While the first DVD in this series showed Teddy Roosevelt as a Rough Rider and Governor, in this edition you see more of the political master he was. From the Panama Canal to his 1912 campaign for the Progressive Party, you will get a good overview at just how masterful the first Roosevelt was at manipulating the crowd and making his point matter. It’s interesting to note given recent historical events that the 20th century began – just like the 21st century with a Republican in the White House. The final tracks on the DVD show images from Roosevelt in Africa where he went on hunting safaris. The quality of all the tracks on this DVD are much better than you would expect given how long ago the films were shot.
