Leo Tolstoi had enormous respect for the Dukhobors and called them people of the 25th century. The first Nobel Prize in literature was supposed to be given to Tolstoi, but he rejected it in favor of the Dukhobors. This brochure contains his correspondence of 1895-1910 with the well known Dukhobor religious sect leader Petr Verigin. This sect was persecuted by the Russian government and its leader was forced to emigrate to Canada in 1902. Bibliographical references.
