A Vision for Platform Autonomy provides the holistic overview and the solution to the platform autonomics related to power, thermal, RAS, locality, and resource monitoring. In addition to providing the theoretical basis of autonomics features, this book introduces the current state of the art in Intel platforms. It also covers the software based models and industry standards relevant to each autonomics feature. Additionally, the emerging concept of low speed wireless interconnects to achieve better platform autonomics is introduced. The bottom line is that the system is able to maintain the stable equilibrium while hiding the complexity of the autonomics system from the users. It is similar to what its biological inspiration - the autonomic nervous system - does in our bodies.AuthorsRahul Khanna is currently a platform architect at Intel Corporation. Over the past 15 years he has worked on server system software technologies including platform automation, power/thermal optimization techniques, reliability, optimization, and predictive methodologies. He earned both his master"s degree and PD in electrical engineering from Columbia University. He has authored technical papers in the areas of interconnect reliability, predictive modeling, motion estimation, wireless, and security. He holds 13 patents. Mohan J. Kumar received his master"s degree from University of Texas at Austin. He is a Senior Principal Engineer at Intel where he works on Advancing Server Platform Architecture. Mohan has worked on Server Reliability, Availability and Serviceability (RAS) area for over a decade and has been involved in a wide range of industry activities including IrDA, ACPI, PCISIG, DMTF. He holds 20 patents in technology related areas.
