This study, by relying on analysis of ancient textual sources, aims to reconstruct Chinese perceptions of jade, looking at the philology of words associated with jade and its manufacture, and at how it was presented in a moral sense in ancient Chinese literature, as well as its role in medical, scientific and alchemical works.
