Lyricist, composer and vocalist, Arthur "Artie" Malvin was blessed with many musical talents and achievements. From the 1940s through to the "80s he was totally immersed in the popular music of the day, involved in everything from childrens" records to the beginnings of rock "n" roll, from televison to Broadway, from commercial jingles to chart-topping hits. In TV, his "specials" for Frank Sinatra and Carol Burnett earned him two Emmy awards. On stage, his score for the the highly successful Mickey Rooney and Ann Miller Broadway musical, Sugar Babies, earned him a coveted Tony nomination. He wrote vocal arrangements and special musical material for Pat Boone, Andy Williams, Julius la Rosa, Steve Lawrence, Eydie Gorme and many others. As vocalist and vocal group leader, he recorded singles with Perry Como, mood albums with Jackie Gleason and chart-toppers such as Jimmy Dorsey"s last and biggest hit, So Rare (vocal backing by the Artie Malvin Singers) and Teach Me Tonight by the De Castro Sisters. As one of the most sought-after jingle writers, his voice and compositions were heard in TV and radio commercials promoting some of America"s best known brand names. However, for an earlier generation, Artie"s name will be forever be linked to that of the man who created the most fondly remembered sound of the 1940"s - the great bandleader Glenn Miller. It was an association that developed and honed Artie"s talents and set him on the pathway to the successes that were to come in the post-War world of musical entertainment.
