Mozart said of Gossec, who was 22 years his senior: "he is my very good friend and a very dry man." Gossec became the most important composer of the French Revolution - he wrote 44 revolutionary anthems and songs. From Gossec"s expansive symphonic oeuvre Concerto Köln have chosen four symphonies, written over a period of 47 years: Gossec lived to the grand old age of 95!
