Sephardic chants are monophonies stemming from Iberian Jewish popular music: women"s songs, lullabies, madrigals, romances and nostalgic melodies. The language of these songs is XVth Century Spanish tinted with different cultures of provenance of Hebraic populations. These ballads carried through the Mediterranean space still convey the day-to-day life of uprooted people. Female vocalist Nadine GABARD and musician Erik BARON (DESACCORDES) wanted to share the interpretation of this repertoire with an awareness of life that irrigates any moving tradition. The duet thus created its own language through the choice of an unexpected encounter, that of a lyric voice and an electric bass. The result of this is released today on the Ethnea label: "Noches Buenas" (2008).
