World War II is over; the enemy no longer poised to attack. But the devastation caused by the conflict is still to be conquered. Young Jack desperately tries to make sense of the confusion encompassing his tortured mind and the knife thrust at his throat. Whilst his parents wrestle with their own problems, Jack is convinced he already has another mother and father somewhere and inescapably, withdraws into his own secret world, floating like a fish out of water trying desperately to evade the lurking anglers hooks. The boy grows up a shy lonely child, racked with doubts and fears, yet with a persistent determined stubborn nature, just like his mother. Neither he nor his mother is prepared to give an inch. Neither does. Jack"s quest to understand and overcome the reasons for his unfortunate beginnings and the confusion it has caused stretches well into his manhood. Throughout it all, Jack never loses his amazing ability and determination to carry on fighting against the odds, nor his willingness to learn and most of all, his quest to find the love of his life. To accomplish this, Jack is prepared to take a lifetime and travel the entire world in which we live. Jack chooses to shrug off his mistakes, and learn from them, and display them on the mantelpiece like prize trophies. If he was paid for each mistake he would be a very rich man and even richer if he was paid for what he learnt from them.
