Echoes from the Cocoanut Grove 1932-33
Price 12.89 - 17.46 USD
The Cocoanut Grove series was compiled from special disks that were rented to radio stations for one playing only, hence the disks used were in close to mint condition. With modern technology, it is amazing how well these recordings sound (considering the limitations in 1932). Jimmie Grier took over the orchestra after Gus Arnheim left the Cocoanut Grove, and so includes many of the same musicians as the Gus Arnheim CD (if you enjoy one, you will enjoy the other). The early thirties music was tamer than that of the 1920"s, but still mixes jazz with symphonic sounds. The vocal solos of Loyce Whiteman and the Three Ambassadors are fantastic, as are the other voices heard on the CD. If you enjoy vintage, original music from this era, you will love this one.
