Special agricultural practices are employed which insure organic purity and a healthy growing environment. In the fall, the straw and stubble that remain from the previous organic crop"s harvest are tilled into the ground instead of being burned. Purple vetch, a leguminous plant that delivers nitrogen and other vital nutrients to the soil, is used as a rotation crop and winter ground cover. On this soil the rice seed is planted. The seedlings are irrigated with clear Feather River water from the Sierra Nevada Mountains. No chemical fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides or pesticides are used. We allow the rice plants to reach full maturity in the fields, which guarantees maximum flavor and nutrition. After harvest in the fall, the rice is stored in cooled bins and milled only to order.
