Brill"s New Pauly is the English edition of Der Neue Pauly published by Verlag J.B. Metzler since 1996. The ambitious, authoritative project will comprise 20 volumes (of which this is the third). It is interdisciplinary and contemporary in its approach. The first 15 volumes are devoted to Greco-Roman antiquity, with coverage of the 2,000 years ranging from the second millennium BC to early medieval Europe. Emphasis is given to the interaction between Greco-Roman culture and Semitic, Celtic, Germanic, and Slavonic cultures, and to the interaction of ancient Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Cancik (Latin, U. of Tübingen) and Schneider (ancient history, U. of Kassel) head the editorial team; Salazar (U. of Cambridge) took charge of editing the English edition, for which bibliographic references have been updated.
