This monograph studies the genesis of Russian democratic ideas and the history of reforms, starting with the 19th century and ending with the most recent social and economic transformations under the flag of democracy. The author concludes that the political regime formed under Putin may be called "Schumpeterian democracy" and describes its main characteristics.
