This book is a semiotic study of culture and human behavior. It is also about the 1860"s in Russian life and literature and, in particular about the life and works of the Russian writer Nikolai Chernyshevskii (1828-1889). The author"s goal was to show how specific human experience is transformed into the structure of the literary text which, in its turn, affects the behavior of others.
