The Editor as a profession and position in the mass media was part of larger machine of censorship in the soviet state. This is memoirs of an editor for two popular literary journals Nash Sovremennik (1978-1981) and Oktiabr" (1981-1984) and for the publishing house Soviet Writer (1986-1992). The author writes about the atmosphere in editorials of these places and the hidden rules of his profession, and portrays many writers of this periods from unusual perspective.
