Is Africa The Next Big Thing?: A perspective on Africa at the beginning of the 21st century

The 21st century brings up a great chance for the African continent, an opportunity that shouldn"t be missed. There are three great advantages for Africa: the rising demand for natural resources, the need of workforce, but also the quest for new markets, and Africa is a market of over one billion people. Africa can provide all of these and many more. The articles are focused on the role of the United States, China, Russia, India and Brazil in the development process of Africa, from economic and political ties to big investment and loans, without neglecting society and cultural aspects, referring to concepts like "power", "soft power" and "globalization". We tried to answer two questions "Is Africa the next big thing?" and "What global power will have greater influence in Africa?". We overviewed as well the role of the Organization of African Unity, today the African Union, and what future challenges it faces. Last but not least, you will find some short articles, previously written on my blog, on politics and sports, elections, failed states and the power of internet in Africa.
