Teenage mothers need to adopt copying mechanisms to survive. The problem of this study was “How do teenage mothers cope with their present state and life thereafter?” The study had two objectives namely to find out how teenage mothers cope with their present state; and to investigate what motivates teenage mothers to cope with life ahead of them, with research questions corresponding to each objective. Literature on causes and problems of early motherhood, copying mechanisms and motivation to cope with future life were reviewed. The study was anchored on Maslow’s hierarchy of human needs theory. An exploratory study using observations and survey technique was designed to summarize the observed phenomena.
