This is the first publication of the diaries and notes of the well known historian Ivan Zabelin (1820-1908) which he kept for about 60 years. Zabelin is the author of many works, including: Minin i Pozharskii: Straight and Crooked in the Time of Troubles; The History of the City of Moscow; The Domestic Life of Russian Tsaritsas in the 16th to the 17th centuries; and Domashnii Byt Russkogo Naroda v XVI i XVII Stoletiiakh. In his notes, he describes his meetings with many famous people of the 19th century, meetings of the Historical Society, his participation in archaeological excavations, and the history of the Russian Historical Museum.
