This monograph defines the basic paradigms defining linguistic studies in the second half of 20th - early 21st centuries: Isolationist, anthromorphic, and social-cultural. The author focuses on the last one, and illustrates it with the material of a socio-cultural history of metaphor, cognitive and cultural-historical basis of metanymia, including the concept of "crisis of culture".
