This book is about Nikolai Roslavets (1881-1944), a significant Russian modernist composer. He was one of the leaders of Association of Modern Music in the post-revolutionary years, of the professional union of musicians, the editor of the journal Musical Culture. His music was officially suppressed from 1930 onwards (Case of Roslavets). His musical manuscripts were destroyed and after many repressions he died of a heart attack. Roslavets is considered to be one of the leading innovators in the musical culture of the 20th century, a leader of Russian musical avant-garde. This is a new biography and study of his music.
