Storage and viability of Moringa pollen: A case study

Pollen is not merely a plant part essential for reproduction and seed production but can be a very useful in researches pertaining to its storage and viability. Stored pollen can be used in pollen banks as one of the many methods of ex-situ conservation of any species. Stored pollen can be used not only for pollination but for androgenesis and biotechnological interventions. The book presents a study done on Moringa oleifera Lam which is a very nutritional and medicinal plant. The focus is to standardize the storage potential of Moringa oleifera Lam pollen. Since in vitro pollen germination is an effective method to test pollen viability, the medium for optimum germination and various factors that may affect pollen germination and pollen tube growth are explored.
