Schuricht examines the early German settlements on the Rappahannock and Rapidan rivers, their general disbursement throughout Virginia from staging areas in Spotsylvania, Stafford, King George, and Westmoreland counties, and the eventual concentration of German settlements in the Shenandoah Valley.
