Scots in the Mid-Atlantic States, 1783-1883

Naming an additional 3,000 Scots immigrants to the mid-Atlantic region, this book covers the hundred-years immediately following the Revolutionary War and provides a series of sketches conveying such information as the immigrant"s place and date of birth and death, occupation, date of arrival and place of settlement in the U.S., and names of spouse and children. Who were these Scottish immigrants to the mid-Atlantic states? Little exists to record their departure from Scotland, but probably the most informative source of vital data on Scots who settled abroad are the birth, marriage, and death columns of local newspapers. This compilation depends heavily on such sources, together with certain documentary sources in the National Archives of Scotland, as well as a few other sources both printed and manuscript.
