2007 release of a vintage concert by the progressive English rock band on their debut American tour. NY "75 was recorded in front of a wildly enthusiastic audience at the legendary Calderone Theatre on Long Island. The band had "crossed the pond" to capitalize on the success generated by their albums Hero and Heroine and Ghosts, having sold over half a million copies between them. Founding Strawbs member Dave Cousins, lead guitarist Dave Lambert, bass player Chas Cronk and drummer Rod Coombes were augmented by Robert Kirby (best known for his arrangements on Nick Drake"s albums) and John Mealing (formerly with jazz-rock supergroup If), both on keyboards. The album shows how the Strawbs stage show had evolved from its early folk-inspired tunes into an almost continuous symphonic sequence of hard-hitting songs. The band emerged on stage in a blackout to a long-lost taped introduction, "Still Small Voice". Among the established classics featured in the set list are such as "Hero and "Heroine" and "Ghosts" were new songs at the time including "The Promised Land", "To Be Free" and "Hanging In The Gallery" which make their live album debuts with this release.
