The purpose of this study is to explore the forms, the motivations and the impacts of social and solidarity tourism in Africa and to examine measures that could be taken in this sector. It is carried out in partnership by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Union of Tourism Associations in France, the International Bureau of Social Tourism, and the World Tourism Organization. Divided into three parts, the report deals with the concepts of social and solidarity tourism from an international as well as African perspective and explains the role and activities of public authorities. It gives also examples of successful experiences in the field of solidarity tourism, factors contributing to their success, and their impact on host communities.
