The "Green Way" is the first part of the "Lodestar Rising" Trilogy. The story is set in the "Protectorate", where many hundreds of formally independent, and civilian run worlds, were merged, five hundred years ago, into a single entity under military control. When Karl Dornik, military specialist turned drifter, crash lands on a planet in the Veil Nebula, he is arrested by the military authorities. He escapes and is found by the beautiful Praaxian, Treecia ven Willem. Treecia, an interplanetary trader, on her way home after a long voyage, is tall, blonde and fiercely independent! They fall in love, but she has a dark secret: one which will seal both their fates. Karl and Treecia travel to the planet Iskinar where they are befriended by the diminutive Corrua, whose people have been taken captive and transported to a secret destination. They offer to help Corrua find his wife and children and become involved in a mesh of politics and intrigue, which implicates both the Confederation (the old civilian government) and the Protectorate. The two of them are separated many times during their adventures - by the actions of others, Karl"s sense of duty, and their own stubborness.
