This text reflects increasing sophistication of contemporary approaches to the study of joint ventures in the People"s Republic of China and gathers perspectives ranging from the historical to economic, ethical and sociological approaches. The topics in this study reflect the diversity of both the interests and background of the contributors. They come from Hong Kong, China, the United States and Europe. The chapters look in some detail at developments in the JV field. The subjects covered include an examination of the nature of international joint ventures in China; a historical account of the relations between Japanese and Chinese cotton textile manufactureers in China between 1912 and 1937; the cultural divide; and the paradoxes and ambiguities inherent in labour relations in joint ventures.
