The perfect Mujehid is the one who fights for God alone, not for the rewards of Paradise, and who is sinless before God. This demands the Law of the Knife for when his human nature sins: he must cut off that which causes the sin. But if the sin were indifference, what can the perfect Mujehid cut? This is the question that plagues Arajad, and the Lord his God, hearing his despair, in mercy silently sets before him a quest to find the sword called the Dolorous Blade, or The Sharpest, that can cleave past flesh and bone into the heart of being, to part his sin from him. Yet when he finds it, would he be able to use it on himself?
