"Light Flight" by Pentangle has constantly shifting rhythms, with 5/4 predominant. Would rather have heard Ralph McTell do "Streets Of London."The Gerry Rafferty side, "Mary Skeffington," is particularly nice, as is "Rosemary Lane" by Bert Jansch. Both are gently thoughful. After a rousing Scottish singalong led by Billy Connolly, John Renbourne"s cover of a 1920s Ernest V. Stoneman number calms things down again. Renbourne sings of US president William McKinley"s assassination in the early 20th Century.Easy Street is a nice loping change-of-pace instrumental."All In A Dream" has somewhat hallucinogenic lyrics and a subpar melody. A mediocrity.Gryphon"s "Sir Gavin Grimbold" combines delightful medieval-sounding instrumentation and an heroic story-- a real highlight of this collection.Richard Digance closes with an introspective song of loss that has universal appeal.
