Robert Ffrench Heavy D & Friends
Price 3.99 - 21.30 USD
What do you get when you combine a hot young dancehall singer with a well-regarded Jamaican-born rapper and a host of guest artists? An album that is less than the sum of its parts, unfortunately. Ffrench is a good singer, though not a great one, and while Heavy D is obviously having a ball, too many tracks on this album sound like throwaways. The two best numbers here ("More Love" and "Free & Single") have been more recently included on a far superior Ffrench best-of entitled Yesterday and Today. Runners-up include a fine, soca-flavored deejay turn by Lady G titled "In a Bundle" and a singer-deejay combination track featuring General Degree called "Dangerous Woman". (And who is Bajja Jedd? He acquits himself nicely on the conscious "Jah Give them a Beating".) Basically, the rest is either disposable ("Ruff & Tuff", "Swinging") or execrable ("I Need Your Loving"). Not recommended. ~ Rick Anderson, All Music Guide
