Djivan Gasparyan is unquestionably one of the world"s greatest musicians, a living legend of the world music. He is the foremost virtuoso of the duduk, an ancient Armenian instrument that is made of apricot wood. No other instrument is able to convey the emotions of the Armenian people as well as duduk. Armenia"s most famous folk musician was born in 1928, in Solag, a village near the Armenian capital Yerevan. He won Gold Medals in four worldwide competitions organised by UNESCO. A professor at the Yerevan Conservatory, he has the the unique distinction of being the only musician to be given the honorary title of People"s Artist of Armenia. He has recorded soundtracks for dozens of Hollywood"s blockbasters. Gladiator"s sound track, where Gasparyan gave a great input and is co-author of some songs, has even won the Golden Globe 2001 for best soundtrack.
