Mabsant: - 24 o ganeuon gwerin gorau Cymru - 24 Best Loved Welsh Folk Songs
Mabsant - the name comes from the traditional mabsant festival in Wales to celebrate the local saint"s day in each village. After the morning service, hundreds would gather to sing, dance, run races, rhyme and generally make merry. What the group tries to do is recreate this atmosphere. 1979 saw the first "Gwylmabsant" for a century, at dinas Powys, complete with its own King, traditional games, and danceing in the street. --- This collection provides songs for other folk singers to use. Some of the songs will be familiar, others had not been sung for a very long time, perhaps over a century. -- An excellent contribution to the revival of Welsh folk singing.
