Various aspects of social scientific criticism of the New Testament and the numerous interpretive questions this approach raises continue to be at the forefront of discussion and debate in the field of New Testament studies. Although some have tended to resist or marginalize this "new" methodology, its importance for the interpretation of the New Testament texts of the early church cannot be neglected; perhaps it can hardly be overemphasized. David M. May has provided here a very helpful resource for New Testament and other scholars, not only in the classified bibliography itself, but also in his very fine introduction.
