Stasis ulcers (open sores usually found on the lower, inner area of the leg above the ankle) occur as the result of problems with the return of blood through the veins in the lower extremities. Elderly homecare patients are especially at risk for developing these ulcers, and agencies frequently care for patients with this problem. Understanding stasis ulcers will allow home health aides to support the healing process. This in-service lesson looks at the important role home health aides play in caring for a patient with a stasis ulcer.
