Lester Bowie was an American jazz trumpet player, composer and co-founder of the Art Ensemble of Chicago. Bowie took an adventurous and humorous approach to music, and criticized Wynton Marsalis for his conservative approach to jazz tradition. In 2000, a year after his death, Bowie was inducted into the Down Beat Jazz Hall of Fame and In 2001, the Art Ensemble of Chicago released their album Tribute to Lester.
