Digitally remastered two CD set containing a pair of albums from the Jazz great: Discovery and Nirvana. The breadth and vitality of Charles Lloyd"s music is apparent throughout the Discovery! album. All the selections are his own compositions except, of course, Henry Mancini"s and Johnny Mercer"s Academy Award-winning "Days of Wine and Roses". Along the way, Charles receives exceptional support from Don Friedman, one of the most original of the young piano talents, and from a rhythm team of Eddie Khan (bass) and Roy Haynes (drums) on one of the sessions which resulted in this album. Nirvana is perhaps the finest album from the Charles Lloyd Quartet following on from Discovery. His band at the time was a spread of true giants. On piano there was Keith Jarrett, on bass there was Ron McClure and drums one Jack DeJohnette. It was an impressive conglomeration and counterbalance of ability. But it was most decidedly led by Lloyd. Super Bird. 2010.
