This book of over 260 old photographs is a celebration of Ludlow, once described as "the most beautiful and distinguished country town in England". The book systematically displays each area of the town, highlighting not only well-known beauty spots such as Whitcliffe and the Teme valley, but also those residential suburbs such as East Hamlet and Gravel Hill, which have not featured in earlier books about the town. Other chapters look at the way the townspeople have earned their living or spent their leisure time, their wartime activities and introduce us to some of the characters who have played a part in the town"s past. A final section brings us up to date with pictures collected from Ludlow"s recent history. Throughout, people feature as prominently as the townscape, for Ludlow is a vibrant community as well as an architectural treasure trove. More than sixty local people have contributed photographs and information for this enthralling collection and the final work is an achievement in which the whole town will take much pride.
