On his first release as a leader, vibraphonist Christos Rafalides album takes the listener from the deep groove of tribal African rhythms of "Flamingo Strut," to the contemporary jazz sounds of "Pocket" with guest soloist Randy Brecker, to the relentless Latin swing of "Guanguanco." Founded in 1999 with Latin powerhouse bassist John Benitez & talented young jazz/funk drummer Steve Hass, the "Vibes" immediately became a hit with the downtown Manhattan jazz & Latin club audience.
