Pearl oysters are mollusks of family Aviculidae that are found in the coastal water in tropical areas. For a living, they filter the organic particulates from the sea water and convert these into food. In addition, sometimes a fine inorganic particulate gets filtered into them around which shiny matter (nacre) from the inside layer of their shell gets deposited over a period of time to form a pearl. In our day to day life, in addition to our basic requirements we often come across very minute, apparently non-consequential incidents which, when snowballed with shiny objects like our insight, imagination and romanticism transforms into a story. They are like little pearls providing us with moments of unadulterated joy, the essence of life. Every person has got his own stories. I have got my own. Ten such stories are being presented with the hope that the readers will enjoy the same. Literature is not only a source of enjoyment; it also influences the lifestyle of a person. This presentation is my maiden significant effort in the field and I will consider myself fortunate if a single person is influenced positively by any of the pieces. The background is that of an Indian middle class set up, the one with which I, the author, is familiar with. I have tried to become sincere to my readers with the stories. A variety of colors of life have been tried to be captured, all from real life incidents, but a conscious effort has been put up to make a fiction form of the same. Any resemblance with any particular person in real life or any such person being hurt due to any mention in my work is only a matter of coincidence and apologized in anticipation. Finally, it is not meant to be a scholastic effort by any stretch of imagination. The only intention behind the offering is to share my moments of joy with you all. Simple things of life put in a simple way so that amongst the turmoil of life a few moments of joy bring out the essence of pearl to you, and to me. ---Debaprasad Mukherjee
