Jhika is a unique kind of cymbal musical instrument from India. It is generally used as an accompaniment to Punjabi folk music in north India. Sometimes Bhangra dancers also use it while singing and dancing. 16 inches length and solid thick plastic make it ergonomically perfect instrument. Earlier Jhika used to have wood frames. Folk artists, however, prefer solid plastic frames because of higher quality sound. Each cymbal plate pair brings out its own high pitch sound. 14 pairs of small cymbals give rise to resonating sound.NB: This is a folk music instrument and is handcrafted by the artisans of village India. The folk music instruments are usually meant for sale in the rural local markets. The artisans use very simple and age old tools to make folk music instruments. Almost all folk music instruments therefore lack the finesse that we often see in classical instruments.
