A tough and adventurous life awaits Tom Chatto as he embarks at Liverpool in the 1890s on his first voyage as an apprentice at sail. He has to learn how to handle the big square-rigged windjammer, go aloft to dizzying heights to tend the sails and cope with stowaways and misfits.
