Herbert von Karajan recorded this symphony at least three times, and his best recording is the one he did for DG with the Berlin Philharmonic, available at a twofer price and coupled with the Fifth and Sixth Symphonies. Since that two-disc set costs exactly the same as this single performance, and is better played and recorded, there"s no point in giving this particular remake any further consideration. --David Hurwitz
