This book is an academic description of a trip to the Holy Land in 1900 by Metropolitan Arsenii (Avksentii Stadnitskii, 1862-1936), professor and rector of the Moscow Theological Academy (1897-1899) accompanied by other professors and students of the Academy. He later became bishop of Pskov, Novgorod and Staraia Russa, deputy of the First Russian Duma. He was one of three candidates for the office of Russian patriarch at the Synod in August 1917.
