Billed as "Generation Xercise," this is a dance workout with complex, up-tempo moves that will appeal to the MTV generation. The moves are fast, stylized, bouncy, sometimes jerky. Perky instructor Debra Minghi teaches dance combinations with catchy names like "Build the Roof," "Bootie Shake," and "Wanna Give It Up." Unless you"re extremely coordinated, you"ll need to stop the video many times at first to get the moves, which are complex in themselves, then strung together into energetic, fast-paced combinations. The cool-down is the same choreography at a slightly slower (not slow, just less than lightning speed), followed by a standing stretch sequence. Debra Minghi is a well-known choreographer and dancer. She was trained by Bob Fosse, danced in the touring company of A Chorus Line, and choreographs for MTV. She teaches well and is motivating and fun to watch. However, there"s no excuse for her not realizing that her right is our left, and vice versa. She miscues all the directions. This 58-minute video is best for young, coordinated, dance-oriented exercisers who like a frenetic pace and appreciate a choreography challenge. --Joan Price
