Orthopaedic Management (Clinics in Development Medicine)
The first edition of this book is widely regarded as one of the most authoritative texts on the subject. It is also a model of brevity and clarity. Because of the great advances in the field in recent years the author has now produced a thorough revision. There is an entirely new chapter on special assessment methods, and new sections on gait analysis, neurobiology, physical and occupational therapy, goals and methods of treatment, and parent counselling. The section on surgical treatment has been updated and includes new data and studies on paralytic dislocation of the hip and its prevention, and the management of scoliosis in cerebral palsy. The bibliography has also been expanded and brought up to date, and many of the illustrations are completely new. The book should prove to be informed reading for orthopaedic surgeons, physiatrists, developmental paediatricians, physical and occupational therapists, rehabilitationists and child neurologists; and the central chapter on past and current therapy methods is especially useful to give practising physicians (who are asked to approve such therapies) knowledge on their hypotheses and efficacy.
