Dad"s Army first appeared on TV screens in 1968 and was written by Jimmy Perry and David Croft. The series is based in the fictional seaside town of Walmington-On-Sea. It recounts the misadventures of the local voluntary defence force (or "Home Guard") consisting of men too old, too young, or "unfit" for military service. The programme is still popular today with its timeless sublime mix of character comedy and lunatic, slapstick escapades. Something to cheer us all up in tough times.
