Have you suffered from a traumatic experience? Are you or is someone you know a combat veteran? Has that war experience caused dramatic changes in your life and the lives of those around you? Bob Carcel was a combat soldier in Vietnam, and he invites the reader to accompany him as he relives his experiences in an attempt to come to terms with them and continue with a normal life. From the onset of his service, Carcel was programmed to kill or be killed. He developed a real insensitivity to death after watching fellow soldiers, the enemy, and civilians die violently. Even upon returning home, Carcel could not escape his war experiences. His six months of “easy service” became a nightmare when he had to attend the funerals of combat victims; not only did this cause him to relive their deaths, but he also became a sounding board for angry, grieving families. Carcel could not escape the war and senseless death, not even with drugs and alcohol. But despite the hardships and pain, Carcel found he could overcome these experiences. With the help of God, the discipline of reprogramming, and the development of different rooms, Carcel has been able to move toward acceptance and fulfillment in life. He offers his story as hope for all victims of tragedy, war, or other traumas.
