Is your ipod coming up with an "unhappy " iPod face? If so your hard drive could be at fault but instead of changing the hard drive straight away, try changing this part first as it could just be a faulty hard drive cable which is not allowing your hard drive to work with your motherboard and will be a more cost effective fix.
