While still in his teens, Stephen Spicer makes claims to being the Western World"s most gifted psychic and goes to extraordinary lengths to prove it. But his demonstrations of the paranormal do not impress investigative journalist, Damon Jenkins, who pursues him relentlessly. During a visit to the United States, Spicer gets over ambitious and claims one of his "messages" names the real killer of President John F Kennedy. This backfires on him and he hurriedly returns to the UK to relinquish his claims to be psychic. Jenkins receives professional acclaim for uncovering Spicer"s deceit but is amazed when his adversary returns to the States and attempts to resume his psychic career in bizarre circumstances. An alleged haunted mansion in Maine"s Cadillac Mountain becomes the focus of attention for both men and it is there they have experiences which turn their worlds upside down. The tendency of psychics to cheat when things don"t go their way is dramatically exposed against the background of an investigative reporter trying to do his job with minimum support from a declining and impoverished newspaper industry.
